22 Oct 1937 - joined the Antrim Fortress Company having lately served as Cadet Corporal at Campbell College Contingent Jun. Div OTC.

1937-8 Aug 1940 Antrim Fortress Company 

23 Sep 1943 - promted to Temp Major.

1 May 1947 -promoted to rank of Major

20 Jul 1950 - retains rank of Major, and is granted Honorary title Lt. Colonel.

31 Jan 1953 appointed Honorary Colonel of the 591

Antrim Territorial Unit, apon the untimely death of the previous Hon. Col. John Maynard Sinclair.


1 Aug 1959 - having reached the maximum age for the Territorial Army he stands down, retaining the rank of Honorary Lieutenant Colonel.

19 Apr 1960 - appoint Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Armagh.

4 Jan 1963 - 1964 Lt. Col. Acheson Harden Glendinning OBE TD DL JP of Crunagh Glenanne Armagh, appointed High Sherriff of Armagh.

31 Jan 1963 - succeeded by Col. Bertrand Dawson Cotton OBE TD as the Hon. Col. of 591 Antrim Independent Field Squadron Royal Engineers Territorial Army.
