1939 Arthur is living with eldest sister Elizabeth and her husband William Mann, and younger sister Sylvia E Handley in sutton Road, Barking. Arthur is recorded as a motor fitter by trade at this time.
Earlier in the same year during his court case he is described as a machine operator. [See clips below.]


Elsie  Spilling m. 1943 Ipswich. His widow re-married in 1946 to Mr R.J. Dale.


6th  or 7th June 1944 aged 24. He was witnessed by colleagues, killed in action, but his body was not recovered at the time or identified at a later date. He could be in an unmarked grave. Hence named on the Bayeaux Memorial.
